NCAA extends recruiting dead period

The NCAA Division I Council Coordination Committee has decided to to extend the recruiting dead period for at least another month. The association released a statement on Wednesday.
Per the release, the recruiting dead period will now extend through June 30. However, the committee could choose to extend it even further when it meets again on May 27. The extension comes as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Since mid-March, the NCAA has put restrictions and limitations on recruiting. While coaches are permitted to stay in contact with prospects virtually, all official and unofficial visits have been prohibited, as have all face-to-face meetings between coaches and players.
New guidelines from the NCAA have forced coaches and staffs to get creative on the recruiting front. Some, like Ohio State, Minnesota, Iowa and others, have embraced these changes and are seeing success with their 2021 recruiting classes. Others, like Indiana and Illinois, have struggled in their pitches to recruits.
The Early Signing Period for college football is still seven months away.
