Urban Meyer’s son to walk on to Cincinnati football team

Nate Meyer is hoping to follow in his father’s footsteps.
Wednesday, Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports reported that Nate Meyer, the son of former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, will be joining the Cincinnati football team as a walk-on for the upcoming season. He will be a wide receiver with the Bearcats.
For the last two years, Nate Meyer has been on scholarship with Cincinnati’s baseball program. He wants to switch sports in order to prepare for a future in college football coaching.
Urban Meyer also attended the University of Cincinnati, where he played defensive back for the Bearcats in the 1980s. At the same time, he was also playing minor league baseball as a member of the Atlanta Braves organization. He immediately jumped into coaching following his time at UC, and is now known as one of the greatest college football coaches of his time.
In 17 seasons as a head coach at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and Ohio State, Meyer compiled a 187-32 overall record and his teams never had a losing record. He led Utah to an undefeated season in 2004 and won two national championships at Florida in 2006 and 2008.
After taking a year off from coaching, Meyer was the head coach at Ohio State for seven seasons. He led the Buckeyes to a national championship in 2014, totaled an 83-9 record and was a perfect 7-0 against rival Michigan.
