A Florida offensive lineman has become the eighteenth member of Minnesota’s 2021 recruiting class.

Sunday, the Golden Gophers received a pledge from 6-foot-7, 315-pound offensive tackle Austin Barber out of Jacksonville, Florida. He was the second offensive lineman to commit to Minnesota over the weekend, along with 6-foot-8, 280-pound tackle Cameron James.

Barber has a three-star ranking from 247Sports. He announced his decision on Twitter.

“I want to thank all the coaches that believed in me and support med through this decision,” Barber said. “With that being said, I am committing to The University of Minnesota.”

Barber is ranked as one of the top 100 offensive tackles in the 2021 recruiting cycle, coming in at No. 87. He’s also one of the top 125 prospects out of the state of Florida.

More than two dozen schools offered Barber during the recruiting period. He picked Minnesota over Duke, Illinois, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Pitt, UCF and Utah, among others.

Minnesota’s 2021 class still ranks ninth nationally and is third in the B1G, behind Ohio State and Michigan.
