Say goodbye to Lovie Smith’s beard. Unfortunately, the Illinois head coach has gone clean shaven.

Wednesday evening, Illinois football shared an image of Smith with a noticeable difference — he’s no longer sporting the beard. The feature that became Smith’s most popular over the last two years is now gone.

Below is the picture, shared by Illinois:

Smith grew the famous beard prior to the 2018 college football season and has kept it through the 2019 campaign. Some even believed it brought some good fortune to Champaign, as the Fighting Illini earned a bowl berth last season, finishing with a 6-6 record to conclude the regular season.

Illinois also landed upset wins over Wisconsin and Michigan State, the biggest achievements of the Smith era.

Now, Smith is back to his previous look, with absolutely no facial hair whatsoever. Can 2020 get any worse?!
