The B1G has approved the hardship waiver for Iowa forward Patrick McCaffery. The decision was announced on Friday.

McCaffery appeared in two games for the Hawkeyes during the 2019-20 season before a residual health issue related to his thyroid kept him sidelined for the remainder of the year. In 27 minutes of action, the freshman scored six points, grabbed five rebounds, had one assist and one steal.

With the approval from the B1G, McCaffery will still have four years of eligibility remaining at the college level.

As a high school player, McCaffery was a four-star recruit who was ranked as the No. 86 overall prospect in the 2019 recruiting class. He was the No. 19 small forward and the second-best prospect out of the state of Iowa.

Iowa finished the 2019-20 basketball season with a 20-11 record and was 11-9 in B1G play.
