Penn State DT opts to head for transfer portal

A Penn State defensive tackle has decided to enter his name in the transfer portal and explore options elsewhere.
Damion Barber announced on Monday that he will be looking at options outside of State College to continue his college football career. He would’ve been entering his redshirt junior season with the Nittany Lions in 2020. Barber is no longer listed on the official team roster.
Barber released a statement on Twitter.
“Growing up as a kid from Harrisburg it was always my dream to play here at Penn State. I succeeded that dream and have loved my time here at the university,” Barber wrote. “I want to thank everyone who has supported me through my time here, I made so many friends and countless memories. I also want to give a special thanks to Coach [James] Franklin and the rest of the staff for taking a chance on me and letting me fulfill my dream out of high school.
“That being said, right now I feel as though the best chance for me and my career is to enter the transfer portal and continue my journey. Thank you Nittany Nation and WE ARE!”
Barber appeared in 11 games at Penn State, including eight during the 2019 season. He made three tackles while on the field last year. Barber will have two years of eligibility left at his next destination.
