Texas reports more than a dozen football student-athletes test positive for COVID-19

The largest number of positive tests for COVID-19 to date has come out of the University of Texas.
On Thursday, the school announced that 13 football student-athletes have tested positive for the virus. That total includes the two players who tested positive for COVID-19 last week, according to the school’s statement.
“Including two reported from initial surveillance testing last week, as of Thursday, Texas Athletics has had 13 total football student-athletes who have confirmed positive COVID-10 PCR test results or are presumed positive,” said associate athletic director for sports medicine Allen Hardin. “All 13 are now self-isolating. Through contact tracing, 10 more football student-athletes are in self-quarantine, all of whom are asymptomatic at this time.”
Several schools that have welcomed back student-athletes back to campus have seen positive test results for the virus. However, Texas the first to report positive tests reaching double digits.
The University of Houston recent had six student-athletes test positive and temporarily halted voluntary workouts on campus.
