Two Rutgers football players have tested positive for COVID-19 upon their return to campus recently, according to a report from NJ.com. The news outlet cited two sources with knowledge of the situation.

Rutgers opened its doors for voluntary workouts on June 15, two weeks after the NCAA lifted its moratorium on organized team activities. There was no comment on the situation from the school or head coach Greg Schiano at the time the news was first reported.

Several schools in the B1G and across the country have permitted student-athletes to return to campus for voluntary workouts. Those schools have welcomed players back with COVID-19 guidelines and protocols in place, in the event that there are positive tests. Schools are also working to slow the spread among the teams and on campus.

Both of the individuals who tested positive for the virus are currently in quarantine.

According to NJ.com, Schiano is scheduled to meet with the media on Monday. It will be the first time he’s spoken with reporters since student-athletes have been allowed to return to campus.

Rutgers is scheduled to open the 2020 college football season at home on Saturday, Sept. 5 against Monmouth.
