‘I think he’s going to be tremendous’: NFL analyst discusses potential of Chase Young in the NFL

There’s no doubt that high expectations are coming to the NFL with Chase Young. Many believe the former Ohio State defensive end was the most talented prospect in the 2020 draft class, and was the No. 2 overall selection by the Washington Redskins.
Already, Young has been compared to former teammate Nick Bosa, NFL star Julius Peppers and other dominant defensive ends like Ryan Kerrigan, Jadeveon Clowney and Myles Garrett. But analyst Charlie Casserly said on NFL Total Access that the hype surrounding Young might be even higher.
“I think he’s going to be tremendous,” Casserly said, according to 247Sports. “I’ve scouted a lot of defensive ends. He’s better than Julius Peppers coming out (of college), more instinctive and productive. Better than Jadeveon Clowney, more productive and healthy. He’s a better athlete than Mario Williams and more consistent than Myles Garrett. He’s a complete defensive end, sets the edge versus the run, can beat you outside on the rush and can beat you inside. Redskins are going to be a rotation, Ryan Kerrigan, Montez Sweat, look for him to play both the right end and left end and get 40 or 50 plays a game. From day one, the defenses will have to double team him to stop him on the pass rush.”
Young left Ohio State after three seasons. During the 2019 campaign, he totaled 16.5 sacks, 21 tackles for loss, forced six fumbles, broke up three passes and blocked a kick. He was named the B1G Defensive Player of the Year, was a first-team All-American selection and was a Heisman Trophy finalist.
The Buckeyes finished the season 13-1.
Young has yet to play a snap in the NFL, but there’s a lot of optimism about what the defensive end can bring to the field. He’s expected to make an immediate impact in Washington.
