Report: Ex-Nebraska WR JD Spielman heading to Big 12 for final season

Former Nebraska wide receiver JD Spielman has reportedly found a home for his final year of eligibility at the college level.
Over the weekend, 247Sports reported that Spielman has committed to TCU and will be spending his final collegiate season with the Horned Frogs. The news comes after the Huskers’ former leading receiver split ways with the program in what was deemed a mutual parting by head coach Scott Frost.
Spielman has already used his redshirt season and did not graduate from Nebraska. He will need a waiver from the NCAA to participate in the 2020 season. 247Sports also reported that the association did grant Spielman’s waiver, though there has been no confirmation on that front, either.
Spielman had been a consistent contributor to the Nebraska offense during his time in Lincoln. He totaled more than 800 receiving yards each season during the last three years. He left the program with 170 catches for 2,546 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Last fall, Spielman totaled 898 yards and five touchdowns on 49 receptions. The Huskers ended the 2019 campaign with a 5-7 record, falling one win shy of bowl eligibility.
TCU also failed to reach the postseason in 2019, finishing 5-7 as well. It marked just the third time in Gary Patterson’s 19 seasons as the head coach that the Horned Frogs did not appear in a bowl game.
