In less than 24 hours, Illinois has made two huge additions to the roster for the 2020 season.

On Thursday, the Fighting Illini received a commitment from FCS preseason All-American and South Carolina State defensive tackle Roderick Perry. The 6-foot-2, 300-pound lineman made his announcement with a post on Twitter.

Perry said it was never his plan to leave South Carolina State, though the MEAC’s decision to postpone fall athletics changed his mind. Shortly after that announcement, Perry opted to hit the NCAA transfer portal and explore opportunities elsewhere.

The commitment from Perry comes a day after former USC tight end Daniel Imatorbhebhe — brother of Illini wide receiver Josh Imatorbhebhe — announcement that he will also be heading to Champaign.

Perry totaled 34 tackles, 14.5 stops for loss and 4.5 sacks last season at the FCS level. He is a graduate transfer and will have one season of eligibility remaining for the Fighting Illini.

After having productive seasons on the field, Perry is considering a player who could hear his name called during the 2021 NFL Draft. His transition to Illinois could help his status if he produces another big year.
