Report highlights details of potential start date, schedule model for B1G

Ever since the B1G announced that it was shifting to an all-conference scheduling model for fall sports and the college football season in 2020, there’s been a lot of waiting. But we may not have to twiddle our thumbs for much longer before the league makes an announcement.
Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune provided some potential details on what the B1G college football season could look like. One of Greenstein’s sources says that he expects an official announcement to come from the conference next week, or potentially as early as Friday.
According to Greenstein’s report, the presumed start date for the season will be Saturday, Sept. 5, which was previously planned for the first big weekend in the B1G. Essentially, the start of the football season for the conference would be unchanged, with the exception of the handful of teams scheduled to play on Thursday, Sept. 3 and Friday, Sept. 4.
The B1G is likely to implement a 10-game, conference-only schedule with three to five open dates for makeup games, should one or multiple teams need to reschedule. This season will also be front-loaded with division matchups in an effort to — in the event of a delay during the season — determine the division champions.
Changes in crossover games in order to limit travel could also be a possibility.
