C.J. Beathard didn’t play in Iowa’s spring game, but not because of his groin injury

After C.J. Beathard had offseason sports hernia surgery, his spring status was in question. The Iowa quarterback was limited throughout the spring, but he was still expected to suit up for Saturday’s scrimmage.
Instead, he was in sweats.
But as it turns out, it wasn’t a groin-related injury. Beathard didn’t play on Saturday because of a shoulder injury:

That’s certainly not great news from Beathard. Even though he said it wasn’t serious, hearing that he added another ailment isn’t necessarily encouraging. On the flip side, at least it wasn’t lingering effects from surgery that prevented Beathard from playing.
Whatever the case, Iowa needs the second-team All-B1G quarterback healthy for 2016. Luckily he’ll have the summer to get back to full strength before his final season in Iowa City.
