Tuesday was a heartbreaking day for everyone in the B1G. While we as fans were disappointed to learn the news that the conference was pulling the plug on the college football season, it was devastating for the players and coaches who put their heart and soul into the 2020 season.
Less than a week after the B1G released a schedule for the 2020 season, school presidents and commissioner Kevin Warren called off fall sports without much of an explanation.
Not long after the announcement was made, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day met with his team to deliver the message. It was tough news to share, but something that had to be done.
Earlier in the week, Day urged the B1G to delay the season before cancelling. Athletic director Gene Smith and incoming president Kristina Johnson were also in favor of a delay over cancellation.
But, unfortunately for Ohio State, the B1G presidents voted in favor of a cancellation. Below is Day’s message to his players:
To our student-athletes:
We respect you.
We will always fight for you.
We will be back.#GoBuckeyes pic.twitter.com/0EEyI2eDM2— Ohio State Football (@OhioStateFB) August 11, 2020
