For the first time since making an appearance on Big Ten Network to announce that the B1G was postponing its football and fall sports season, conference commissioner Kevin Warren spoke openly regarding the league.

Much to the disappointment of players, fans, parents and coaches, Warren didn’t answer the difficult questions that they’ve wanted answered over the last eight days. Aside from answering an initial question to open a segment with Sports Business Journal on Wednesday, most of the conversation stayed away from the decision to postpone the season.

“The last week has been very emotional, there’s been a wide range of emotion,” Warren said during the SBJ interview. “This has been really a hard year for everyone. …It’s been a challenging year. And the last eight days have been challenging. You want to make sure you do what’s right by the student-athletes.”

Warren wanted to clarify that the seasons for fall sports were “postponed,” not “canceled.”

Following that brief detail on the B1G’s decision, the conversation shifted more towards Warren’s implementation of a voting initiative, fighting social injustice in the country and addressing mental health concerns for student-athletes throughout the conference.

Below are some of the comments from Warren during the interview:
