Even though Nebraska and the B1G won’t be playing football this fall, Huskers athletic director Bill Moos is hoping things run smoothly this year for the remaining six conferences.

On Sports Nightly on Tuesday evening, Moos said that he’s hoping that the six conferences still pressing forward with a fall football season — AAC, ACC, Big 12, C-USA, SEC and Sun Belt — are able to reach the finish line. If they do, he believes there will be no issues with starting the 2021 season as planned.

“I’m hoping that (other conferences) go the distance and their players are safe and the virus is heading downhill and we get some kind of a season in and we can get back to our regular way of doing things in 2021,” Moos said, per Evan Bland of the Omaha World-Herald.

Currently, the B1G is one of four conferences that have backed down from a fall schedule. It was the first Power 5 conference to do so, followed by the Pac-12. The MAC was the first FBS league to postpone, followed by the Mountain West.

While the B1G stands to suffer in terms of finances, recruiting, exposure and other areas if the other six conferences are able to play a full season, it would seem that it might be the best way for the 2021 season to begin on time, without any changes to the schedule.

The B1G is currently working on a model to play some sort of spring football season. No details have been provided on that expected plan.
