Paul Finebaum calls B1G ‘laughingstock’ of college football for disastrous offseason

Paul Finebaum has a few choice words for the B1G. After a disastrous offseason that resulted in the cancellation of the fall football season, the SEC Network host ripped the conference for the circus it has put on over the last few months.
Most recently, B1G head coaches and athletic directors were in discussions about potentially moving the football season back to the fall — but not September or October. No, instead the B1G is reportedly debating a start date around Thanksgiving week according to Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
That would mean a few B1G games are being played in the fall, but essentially the conference would be left out of the College Football Playoff and bowl consideration. It really doesn’t make much sense.
“It’s not going to happen,” Finebaum said during his show on Friday. “The reason being is I don’t believe the presidents are going to sign off on this. This is a bunch of coaches who are trying to save the season, who are trying to save the battered face of the B1G and I don’t feel they’ll be able to pull it off.
“Quite frankly, it doesn’t make a lot of sense. If you start that late you’re really at a tremendous disadvantage. I know they’re talking about playing in domes and indoor stadiums. Once you get past the holidays the interest in your better players participating is going to go down dramatically — your upperclassmen — those who are going to the NFL.”
Finebaum didn’t stop there.
The SEC Network host said the B1G would essentially “look like the XFL” once the College Football Playoff is over, putting a cap on the season.
“I think it’s also an indicator of just how dysfunctional this league has become — what a laughingstock this league has become,” Finebaum said. “It’s really sad to say this because five weeks ago the B1G was considered the gold standard in big-time college football, and now it’s the punchline to almost any joke you can think of.”
