Report: NCAA files trademark for ‘Battle in the Bubble’

The NCAA has filed a trademark for the phrase “Battle in the Bubble,” Action Network’s Darren Rovell is reporting.
Last week, the NCAA reportedly filed the trademark and intends to use it to name its tournaments, as well as for clothing and merchandise. It’s not expected to be solely used for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
It would appear that, with the NCAA’s filing of the trademark, the association is attempting to create bubble-like environments for upcoming sports seasons or tournaments. With the NBA and NHL having successful ventures in that area, it would make sense for the NCAA to explore those opportunities.
The NCAA has recently postponed all fall sports championships and is looking to host those tournaments in the spring. The lone exception is FBS football, which does not fall under the NCAA championship umbrella.
Currently, six FBS conferences are moving forward with a fall football schedule — AAC, ACC, Big 12, C-USA, SEC and Sun Belt. The College Football Playoff is also planning to continue as planned.
