Social media had fun at Miami’s expense during Thursday night’s game against UAB

Miami was the first Power 5 team to take the field in 2020, opening its season on Thursday night against UAB at Hard Rock Stadium. While many were celebrating that we’ve reached this point, there were also plenty who couldn’t help but poke fun at the Hurricanes.

Obviously, college football is going to look a little different this year. With crowds limited at stadiums this year, those massive venues will look nearly empty throughout the season.

And that’s where the joking started.

The Hurricanes have been known to have trouble drawing sellout — or even respectable — crowds over the last few seasons. Even though it has a storied history of success, it’s hard to get Miami fans out to games in the fall.

So, with fans scattered throughout Hard Rock Stadium on Thursday night, social media couldn’t help but tease Miami. Below are some of the comments as the Hurricanes opened their season:
