There aren’t many area of concerns Ohio State’s roster heading into the 2020. But if you had to highlight one position group that could potentially see a drop off from the 2019 campaign, the running back room might be the one that comes to mind.

Ohio State has plenty of talent at the running back position, but departures from last year’s squad and injuries during the offseason have been somewhat of a concern in Columbus. Replacing J.K> Dobbins was going to be difficult enough for the Buckeyes, but the injury situation amplified the situation.

Landing Oklahoma transfer Trey Sermon obviously helps add talent and depth to the running back group, but it’s still an area that will be discussed leading up to opening kickoff. On Thursday, head coach Ryan Day talked about the group as the Buckeyes prepare for the upcoming, revised B1G season.

Day said Master Teague has made tremendous progress during the recovery process, and the work he’s put in to being prepared for the season “is just amazing.” Marcus Crowley, who suffered an ACL tear last fall is “still working his way back into practice,” Day said on 97.1 The Fan, according to Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors.

When it comes to Sermon, Day said “he’s done everything we’ve asked him to do since he’s been here.”

Steele Chambers and Miyan Williams could potentially work themselves into the mix at running back and help the Buckeyes this fall, as well.

Teague, Crowley and Chambers all saw the field for Ohio State during the 2019 campaign. Teague was the team’s second-leading rusher behind Dobbins, totaling 789 yards and 4 touchdowns on 135 carries last fall. Crowley had 25 touches and racked up 237 yards and one score while Chambers ran for 135 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.

Last season at Oklahoma, Sermon rushed for 385 yards and 4 touchdowns with a 7.13 yards per carry average.
