The B1G football season is back on in 2020, but it will still be a few weeks until they’re back in full pads in a unique “fall camp” environment.
A few head coaches across the league have said that they expect to start padded practices on Sept. 30, when daily antigen testing is in place across the league. Ohio State’s Ryan Day, Michigan State’s Mel Tucker and Penn State’s James Franklin all mentioned that date while speaking with media over the last two days.
Looks like all #B1G teams expect to be in full pads for practices by Sept. 30. Both Mel Tucker (MSU) and James Franklin (PSU) mentioned that date today. Rapid testing is set to be in place by Sept. 30 around the league.

Ryan Day says they’re into the 20 hour practice week, but probably won’t be in pads until Sept. 30.

Using that timeline, that would mean teams would have just under a month of practice in pads. The B1G schedule is set to begin on the weekend of Oct. 23-24.
B1G teams were not permitted to go into full pads this fall prior to the conference’s postponement. And with an abbreviated spring camp, it means there has been a limited number of padded practices since the 2019 season came to an end.
It’s just part of the new normal for college football in 2020.
