The B1G has plenty of really good quarterbacks returning for the 2020 season. Sure, Ohio State’s Justin Fields is considered the best of the pack, but there are several solid passers throughout the conference.

Pinpointing who the second-best quarterback is in the league is a difficult task.

FOX college football analyst Matt Leinart knows who he would put in that spot, though. It’s second-year Penn State starter Sean Clifford, who helped lead the Nittany Lions to an 11-2 record a year ago.

“The reason why I like Sean Clifford, first of all, I think he’s still developing,” Leinart said on Big Noon Kickoff. “We haven’t seen his ceiling yet. His ability to run the football (stands out), 400 yards rushing last year. Penn State, a playoff contender, it’s going to be a great matchup (against Justin Fields).”

Clifford threw for 2,654 yards, 23 touchdowns and just 7 interceptions in 2019, his first year as a starter. He completed passes at a 59 percent clip, and racked up 402 yards and 5 scores on the ground.

With Penn State landing Kirk Ciarrocca as the offensive coordinator, swiping him away from Minnesota, there are expectations for the offense to be even better in State College in 2020.

The B1G is a conference that has Michael Penix Jr. (Indiana), Tanner Morgan (Minnesota), Adrian Martinez (Nebraska), Peyton Ramsey (Northwestern),  Jack Coan (Wisconsin) and Brandon Peters (Illinois) all returning with starting experience. So putting Clifford behind Fields in the No. 2 spot is quite the praise for the junior.
