Were you searching for the worst trick play you’ve seen in college football this season? Well, Florida State may have just what you’re looking for.
In the second quarter of the ACC rivalry game between Florida State and Miami, the Seminoles attempted to catch the Hurricanes off guard and create a little offensive momentum after struggling mightily. But, instead, the trick play had the opposite effect on the game.
A pitch to Jaelan Phillips was already heading in the wrong direction, and would’ve resulted in a loss of about 15 yards. But the worst part came when — for no apparent reason — Phillips threw the football into a group of Miami defenders.
Predictably, the pass was intercepted:

At the time of the interception, Florida State was trailing 21-3. After the interception, Miami marched down the field and scored another touchdown to make the score 28-3.
It’s been a rough evening for the Seminoles, to say the least. And it’s only the first half.
