More bad news has come out regarding Indiana’s secondary.

On Monday, IU head coach Tom Allen said that senior defensive back Raheem Layne is expected to be out for quite some time following an injury. Allen said that Layne was not recently injured, but that a nagging issue needed to be addressed. He’s the second player from Indiana’s secondary who will miss a large portion of the season, along with Marcelino Ball.

Last week it was reported that Ball suffered a torn ACL injury and is out for the season.

“We don’t know the exact timeline but it definitely won’t be any time soon that he’ll be back,” Allen said of Layne on Monday, per Zach Osterman of the Indianapolis Star.

Layne has been a major contributor for the Hoosiers’ defense over the last three seasons, appearing in all 37 games. He’s piled up 82 tackles, broken up six passes, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble during the course of his career in Bloomington.

In 2019, Layne totaled 30 stops, including two for loss, and broke up three passes during the Hoosiers’ 8-5 campaign.
