Major college football game relocated due to Hurricane Delta

Inclement weather heading for the Gulf of Mexico has forced a major SEC matchup to be relocated this weekend.
Wednesday morning, the SEC announced that Saturday’s game between Missouri and No. 17 LSU has been moved from Baton Rouge to Columbia due to the threat of Hurricane Delta. The relocation eliminates one of LSU’s five scheduled home games for the 2020 football season.
The game was originally scheduled to be played at night, but will instead be played at 12 p.m. ET.
Hurricane Delta has intensified into a Category 2 storm, according to the National Weather Service and is expected to hit Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi early Saturday morning, assuming it stays on its current path. The NWS provided an update on the storm.
“Delta continues to pose a hurricane danger to the U.S. Gulf Coast late this week, with threats of storm-surge flooding, damaging winds and heavy rainfall,” it said.
On Tuesday morning, the SEC released its own statement on the situation:
“The SEC is monitoring weather activity in the Gulf of Mexico and will remain in contact with member schools in preparation for athletics events this week,” the league said in a Twitter post.
The other games on the SEC schedule this weekend include:
- No. 4 Florida (2-0) vs. No.21 Texas A&M (1-1)
- South Carolina (0-2) vs. Vanderbilt (0-2)
- No. 14 Tennessee (2-0) vs. No. 3 Georgia (2-0)
- Arkansas (1-1) vs. No. 13 Auburn (1-1)
- No. 2 Alabama (2-0) vs. Ole Miss (1-1)
- Mississippi State (1-1) vs. Kentucky (0-2)
