Ohio State safeties coach raves about ‘speed and talent’ Buckeyes WRs bring to the field

Not often do you hear a defensive backs coach rave about an offensive position group. But at Ohio State, the wide receiver room is too talented not to compliment.
Safeties coach Matt Barnes spoke with the media on Tuesday, and while the primary focus was about his position group and its development as the Oct. 24 date approaches, he did briefly discuss to the team’s wide receiving corps. Barnes has plenty of great things to say about the room.
“I’ve never seen a receiver corps that is even close to resembling the amount of speed and talent [that we have],” Barnes said, per Colin Hass-Hill of Eleven Warriors.
Barnes also serves as the team’s special teams coordinator and he’s still looking for players who can help Ohio State most in the return game in 2020. So, his comments were more geared toward how many options the team has to assist on special teams, more than saying his secondary is getting beaten up by those players.
Ohio State did lose a lot from the receiver room last year, but returns two stars in Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson. Freshmen Julian Fleming, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Gee Scott Jr. are also expected to make quick impacts for the Buckeyes this fall.
The season gets underway in less than two weeks, with Ohio State hosting Nebraska.
