Ryan Day seems pretty pleased with his team’s physicality and conditioning right now as Ohio State sits a week away from taking on Nebraska in the 2020 season opener. The second year head coach knows, though, that he’ll find out exactly where his team stands next Saturday.

During his weekly radio show on 97.1 The Fan, Day talked about how physical practices have been recently, as well as where the Buckeyes stand in terms of conditioning as the opening kickoff approaches.

“We had a really physical Tuesday and Wednesday. It was one of those things where, as we get closer, you have to figure out how tough your team is,” Day said. “Really pleased with the last couple days in terms of physicality.”

So much time passed between padded practices for many college football teams, but especially in the B1G. Other programs have struggled to tackle early in the year, and things could look rusty for Ohio State early as well.

Day did say that a lot of practice has been “thudded” hits, but they’ve also worked on live tackling, as well.

As far as conditioning is concerned, Day believes his team is ready for the showdown with the Huskers. But the truth will be discovered when the teams kick off on Oct. 24.

“You’re never quite sure until you’re in a game where you’re at,” Day said. “[I think] We’re in a pretty good place.”

Ohio State is looking to compete for a fourth-straight B1G title and a national championship in 2020. It will start with Nebraska in a little over a week, with kickoff set for 12 p.m. ET.
