For the next 30-years or so, Iowa Hawkeyes wide receiver Brandon Smith will have a pet to take care of, he revealed in a new video posted to the Hawkeyes official Twitter account

Meet Rufus, Smith’s new pet python, an animal he says he purchased because his German Shepherd is getting older and he wanted to have a friend around the house for the long haul.

“Just to have a pet for a long time,” says Smith. “We’re going to have a lot of history together, so it will be fun.”

At the end of the video, Smith told the camera operator he could not decide between two of his highlight grabs while playing for Iowa.

Both catches are remarkably similar, feature Smith going airborne over the top, then flying horizontally, while making a spectacular grab of the football over defenders from the University of Minnesota and Penn State University before crashing to the ground and holding on.

One is framed already while he plans to frame the other one, Smith said. Have to wonder where Smith’s two catches would rank on ESPN’s “You Got Moss’d” segment, operated by NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss, showcasing highlight reel catches in which receivers snare the ball away from defenders in spectacular fashion.
