Count Tim Tebow amongst those who believe in the Ohio State Buckeyes.
In an appearance on First Take on Friday, Tebow made a bold prediction regarding Ohio State’s future.
“They have a great chance to not just make the playoff, but win the National Championship,” Tebow said. “They have leaders on this team. Urban Meyer recruited well, and then when Ryan Day came in, he recruited well.”
A lot of Tebow’s faith in the Buckeyes stems from quarterback Justin Fields, who is looking to build on a season that saw him become a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2019.
“Then you have a leader like Justin Fields who truly has a chip on his shoulder,” Tebow added. “Every time I’m around this man, I’m more and more impressed with him … He really has a chip on his shoulder and wants to prove that losing to Clemson last year was a fluke — he wants to prove that he’s one of the best players, if not the best player in the country.”
Last season, Fields completed 67.2 percent of his passes for 3,273, 41 touchdowns and three interceptions. The Buckeyes fell to Clemson 29-23 in the College Football Playoff after Fields threw an interception near the end of the game.
Ohio State opens up with Nebraska on Saturday before traveling to Penn State in Week 2 of the Big Ten season. Tebow thinks this stretch will be key for the Buckeyes being able to win the national title.
“If they get the momentum going early in the year, they really have a chance to win the championship,” he said.
