For Minnesota, Saturday night’s game is a big occasion for many reasons. It’s the season opener for two ranked squads with high expectations and is in primetime with ESPN’s top crew calling the game.

But for those in the Land of 10,000 lakes, it’s also the first time in most fans’ lifetimes that the game coverage won’t feature an article from legendary sports columnist Sid Hartman. He died this past Sunday at 100 after serving as a sports columnist for nearly 75 years in the market.

To honor Hartman, the team released this heartfelt video chronicling Hartman’s long time in the press box and his love for Gopher sports.

Besides the video, a spot in the press box has been reserved for Hartman. The place is donned with flowers and a tribute to the man many in Minnesota relied upon for coverage of local sports. He also has a cutout in the stands.

Lastly, the team will honor Hartman with a patch on the back of the team’s helmets.
