The Big Ten’s influence is all over the latest SP+ rankings.
After one week of action, five Big Ten teams made the top-25 in Bill Connelly’s tool: No. 1 Ohio State, No. 4 Wisconsin, No. 8 Penn State, No. 9 Michigan and No. 25 Indiana.
Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan and Indiana all turned in impressive victories while Penn State’s narrow loss to the Hoosiers didn’t cost them too much in these rankings.
🔥 NEW SP+ RANKINGS 🔥
* Unbeaten Ohio State remains No. 1
* Movement galore! Wisconsin to 4th! Michigan to 9th! BYU to 10th! Cincy to 12th! HELLO, NORTHWESTERN
* Hello to you, too, Rutgers & SJSU!
* This week's "Why does SP+ my team??" subject: K-Statehttps://t.co/3nkEERTyXV— Bill Connelly (@ESPN_BillC) October 25, 2020
Despite not playing until this past weekend, Ohio State has actually been No. 1 in SP+ all season. As Connelly details in the story, SP+ is a forward-projecting model that is heavily weighted by preseason projections early in the year.
No. 30 Northwestern and No. 33 Minnesota are just outside the top-25 as well.
Ohio State will be tested with a trip to Penn State next weekend. Wisconsin, meanwhile, should be able to hold on to its top-5 status after traveling to Nebraska.
