Former Buckeye Joe Burrow joins impressive company with historic start to NFL career

Joe Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals career is off to a flying start that has put his name on a list of all-time great quarterbacks.

Despite the Bengals losing to the Browns on Sunday, the former Ohio State quarterback finished with his fifth game of more than 300 yards passing. That puts him in some elite company.

Burrow, who spent time with the Buckeyes as a backup quarterback before winning the Heisman at LSU, is just the fourth rookie quarterback in NFL history with at least five 300-yard passing games.

For reference, Burrow threw for 287 yards total in two seasons in Columbus.

So far in his pro career, Burrow has hit the 300-yard mark in five of his first seven stats. He is only the second player since 1950 to do that. The other player is someone you might recognize.

Burrow is doing this while being surrounded by a Cincinnati squad that doesn’t have an abundance of talented players. The Bengals’ 1-5-1 record puts them near the bottom of the league. But Burrow certainly is moving his way up the list of top starting quarterbacks in the NFL.
