Michigan fan sentenced to prison after making threats to Urban Meyer, Ohio State football in 2018
A Michigan fan will be serving time for threats he made to Urban Meyer and the Ohio State football team back in 2018.
According to the Associated Press, a federal judge has sentenced Daniel Rippy, a Michigan alum, to one year and one day in prison for threatening a mass shooting on Ohio State’s in a Facebook message. He vowed to hurt players on football team and Meyer in the message, per the report.
The threat came after Ohio State’s 62-39 victory over the Wolverines on Nov. 24, 2018.
Federal Judge Algenon Marbley said Rippy, “epitomizes fandom spiraled out of control … “We have to take this seriously because it happens.”
Rippy, 29, apologized at the sentencing hearing.
“I really didn’t mean for any of this. I feel really bad about it. I would never, ever do any act like this,” he said.
Rippy has been in jail for the last 10 months in Columbus and will receive credit for that time served, per the report.
Ohio State’s next meeting with Michigan is on Dec. 12.
