As a former Ohio State head coach, Urban Meyer has had experiences with bringing a team into Happy Valley on a Saturday night during a White Out.

This season, that annual tradition will not be happening due to the pandemic. Though the Buckeyes will still have a tough test in Penn State, it will be significantly different without 100,000 fans dressed in white waving white pom-poms.

One of the most exciting moments in the history of the Nittany Lion program under head coach James Franklin came in 2016 during a white out. It came via a blocked field goal.

Meyer was on the losing side of this heartbreaking defeat. But he’s also led Ohio State teams into Happy Valley and came away victorious.

But despite that experience, no Buckeye coach has the experience of playing in front of an empty Beaver Stadium. Meyer and fellow FOX college football analyst Joel Klatt broke down what impact no fans will have on Saturday’s Ohio State-Penn State showdown. The talk about Saturday night begins about the 1:40 mark.

As Meyer said, that home environment with the white out impacts just about every part of the game, even the practices leading up to the game. Now, Ohio State won’t have to worry about a packed house full of screaming fans. That might make it that much easier for the Buckeyes to leave with a win.
