ESPN’s new power rankings have been published and B-One-G (B1G) has two teams living in the top ten. One of those squads is no surprise while the other has climbed into the kind of rarified air tasted only briefly and at vast intervals over the course of the program’s history.

The rest of the league—except for Wisconsin who dropped to 11th following a Covid-19 outbreak across the roster that forced a game cancellation and left the Badgers looking at an uncertain future—did not enter this week’s top 25.

The Ohio State Buckeyes check in at number two, just behind the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. While the Tide clobbered an increasingly lowly Mississippi State team 41-0, the Buckeyes beat up on and dominated a ranked Penn State team on the road, 38-25.

The red-hot Indiana Hoosiers rose to the poll’s eighth spot, just ahead of Texas A&M and one behind BYU, following a sloppy but decisive 37-21 win over a 1-0 Rutgers team in Piscataway, New Jersey.

ESPN’s top ten are as follows.

  1. Alabama
  2. Ohio State
  3. Notre Dame
  4. Clemson
  5. Georgia
  6. Cincinnati
  7. BYU
  8. Indiana
  9. Texas A&M
  10. Florida

The only other Big Ten team to make the list was Wisconsin, at number 11.
