Former Ohio State star Chase Young earns top NFL honor from PFF

Chase Young has lived up to the hype so far this year, the former Ohio State edge rusher has balled out in his rookie season in the NFL.

So far through seven games, Young has 19 tackles and 2.5 sacks. The second overall pick by the Washington Football Team in last April’s NFL Draft, Young has certainly showed that he is an impact player and that the skillset off the edge seen last year at Ohio State has carried over.

Pro Football Focus has graded him at 82.0 so far this rookie season, the highest-graded rookie defensive player so far this season.

Young put together an impressive 2019 for Ohio State, being named the Chuck Bednarik Award winner as the nation’s top defensive player by the Maxwell Football Club. As a junior at Ohio State, Young was an absolute force off the edge for the Buckeyes.

In 12 games, he had 16.5 sacks along with 32 tackles (21 tackles for a loss). He also registered an impressive seven forced fumbles in his final season at Ohio State.

He was the first Big Ten player taken in April’s NFL Draft. Immediately after his selection, the Detroit Lions took Buckeye teammate Jeff Okudah at third overall. All told, five Big Ten players were selected in the first round of the draft.
