Ohio State basketball received a nice roster boost on Thursday. The Buckeyes learned that transfer point guard Jimmy Sotos has received immediate eligibility from the NCAA.

Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann announced the news on his Twitter account:

“Jimmy Sotos, his wavier was approved,” Holtmann said. “We got word on that this morning. So we appreciate the work of our compliance and the NCAA’s consideration.”

This news comes after transfer point guard Abel Porter’s career came to an end due to a rare heart condition.

Prior to this, the Bucknell transfer was initially slated to sit out one year and had a previous waiver denied.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Sotos is a native of Illinois and averaged 11.5 points, 3.9 assists and 3.5 rebounds last season. Sotos selected Ohio State over programs such as Butler, Gonzaga, Minnesota, Missouri, Vanderbilt and Xavier, according to 247Sports.

Ohio State is coming off a season in which they finished 21-10 and ranked 19th nationally.
