Northwestern did what they were supposed to do on Saturday in a 21-13 win over Nebraska. But it was the way they did it that was most encouraging.

A lackluster first half marred by mistakes and turnovers gave way to an impressive close to the game for Northwestern as they shut out Nebraska in the second half. It was a win that showed not just their ability to win games in different ways but also the fight and backbone of head coach pat Fiztgerald’s program.

Nebraska’s two turnovers, both interceptions, fueled Northwestern’s comeback where they scored 14 unanswered points in the second half. Northwestern defensive back Brandon Jospeh had a big day with six tackles and an interception.

It was a complete turnaround from a first half where Nebraska was physically more dominant, frustrating the Northwestern offense and getting in the back field. In the second half, the Northwestern offense tidied things up, aided by strong special teams and a defense that frustrated Nebraska.

The win lifts Northwestern to 3-0 on the year with the team on the cusp of a national ranking.

Of Nebraska’s five possessions in the second half, they punted twice, had two interceptions and turned the ball over on downs once. It was enough for Northwestern, who was outgained and lost the time of possession, to win the game.
