While it has certainly been the Taulia Tagovailoa show the past couple of weeks for Maryland, freshman wide receiver Rakim Jarrett had a breakout performance over the past weekend. This past Saturday at Penn State, Jarrett was nothing short of sensational.

The Maryland wide receiver had five catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns in his side’s impressive win in Happy Valley. For his performance, Jarrett was named Pro Football Focus’ ‘True Freshman of the Week.’

The analytics site gave him an 88.6 grade.

Hints of Jarrett’s ability to be an impact player, even as a true freshman, emerged the week before when he had six catches for 68 yards in Maryland’s overtime win against Minnesota.

Jarrett started hot this past weekend, a 42-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter staking Maryland to a 7-0 lead with 12:25 left in the first quarter. It was his first collegiate touchdown.

A former five-star recruit, the prospect out of St. John’s in Washington, D.C. committed to Maryland over offers from Alabama, LSU and Ohio State among others.
