Justin Fields now the betting favorite to win the Heisman

Justin Fields has jumped into the lead in the race for the Heisman, the Ohio State quarterback now emerging as the favorite to win the coveted piece of hardware.
On Saturday in a 49-27 home win over Rutgers, Fields was 24-of-28 for 314 yards with five touchdowns. So far this season, he has yet to throw an interception and has just 11 incomplete pass attempts.
Fields is now 3:2 to win the Heisman according to BetOnline, holding steady with the same odds as a week ago. He has surpassed Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, who was the favorite a week ago at 5:4 but currently stands at 7:4 per BetOnline.
Ohio State is 3-0 on the year and ranked No. 3 in the nation.
Were Fields to win the Heisman, and his candidacy as the frontrunner is certainly warranted by now, it would end the Big Ten’s streak of being shutout for the award. The conference hasn’t had a Heisman winner since 2006 when Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith won the award.
Trevor Lawrence, considered the Heisman frontrunner a month ago, remains at 5:2 for a second-straight week. The Clemson quarterback has missed the last two games due to a COVID-19 diagnosis.
Florida quarterback Kyle Trask, 33:1 this time a week ago, made a big gain this week and is now 11:2 with the fourth-best Heisman odds according to BetOnline.Trask was 30-of-43 for 474 yards with four touchdowns and interception in a win over then No. 5 Georgia on Saturday.
