When Jim Harbaugh took the helm of the Michigan program six years ago, he was fresh off a Super Bowl appearance as the San Francisco 49ers head coach.
Harbaugh’s return to Ann Arbor was thought to be what it would take to bring the Wolverines into contention for Big Ten Championships.
That hasn’t been the case.
While Harbaugh and the Wolverines have been good at beating teams they should beat, their lack of success against rivals such as Ohio State and Michigan State has led to speculation for Harbaugh’s replacement, as well as a potential landing spot for Harbaugh.
The group on ESPN’s GET UP bounced around a couple ideas on their show Tuesday morning.
Analyst Greg McElroy brought up the idea. “Don’t sleep on the possibility of Jim Harbaugh maybe returning to the NFL from Michigan as a guy who could potentially take over that organization that has fallen on hard times. We know [Jets owner] Woody Johnson likes to make a splash.”
Marcus Spears disagreed, “No, no. Not at all. That ship has sailed. Arthur Smith is a name you throw in there, the OC from the Tennessee Titans. …but no, not Harbaugh.”
