Mike Locksley releases statement after Maryland’s game vs. Ohio State is canceled

Maryland canceled its upcoming game vs. Ohio State on Saturday due to an increased number in COVID-19 cases, the school said.
The Terps were off to a great start this season, winning their last two games which included an upset victory over Penn State.
Quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa was starting to look like one of the best passers in the Big Ten. He’s completed over 70 percent of his passes for 676 yards and six touchdowns in the last two games.
Coach Mike Locksley released a statement following the announcement to cancel the game vs. the Buckeyes.
“We’re obviously extremely disappointed that we’ll be unable to host Ohio State this Saturday,” Locksley said in a release. “It was an opportunity that our team was preparing for and excited about. However, we have and always will keep our players, coaches and staffs safety at the forefront of our decision making process. We’ll continue to operate as much as we can virtually as we monitor the situation in hopes of returning to play when it’s deemed safe.”
This is only the third Big Ten game of the season to be canceled so far. Wisconsin canceled its contests in Week 2 and Week 3 after having a COVID-19 outbreak. However, the Badgers are expected back in Week 4. It’s currently unclear if Maryland’s situation is as serious as Wisconsin’s was.
If Maryland is able to get back on the field for Week 5, it will face Michigan State at home.
