Minnesota RB Mohamed Ibrahim on Iowa game: ‘We’ll be ready’

For Minnesota running back Mohamed Ibrahim, this Saturday’s rivalry game against Iowa is a chance for the Golden Gophers to turn their season around. Doing so, he says, doesn’t happen overnight.

Ibrahim had 224 rushing yards and four touchdowns in Ibrahim’s in Minnesota’s 41-14 win at Illinois this past weekend. The redshirt junior was named the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Week for his outstanding output in beating Illinois.

This Friday, Minnesota hosts Iowa in the battle for ‘Floyd of Rosedale.’ Both teams are 1-2 and looking to get their season on track. Iowa won last year’s rivalry, 23-19.

“It’s very important but every team is their own team. This 2020 team is different from 2019’s teams,” Ibrahim told Mike Grimm of ‘Gopher Talk’ this week.

“We can learn from what happened in the past. We take it one day at a time. When the time comes, we’ll be ready.”

Minnesota has had a rough start to the year including a blowout home loss to Michigan in the season opener followed by an overtime loss at Maryland the next week. Saturday’s win on the road against Illinois was a chance to turn the season around and create a new narrative around the team.

“We take it one day at a time. After that game, there was a different injury in that locker room. After yesterday, we cleaned the board and now we’re ready for Iowa, we’re game-planning right now,” Ibrahim said.

“Iowa is a great team so we can’t sit here just dwell on the win and stuff like that. We have to move on. The win was great, but now it’s Iowa and we’re getting ready for that.”

Iowa lost their first two games of the season to Purdue and then No. 23 Northwestern. They bounced back last week with an impressive 49-7 win over Michigan State.
