B1G pettiness: Kirk Ferentz’s response to calling 3 timeouts late in blowout win vs. Minnesota is epic

Kirk Ferentz usually doesn’t get involved in the pettiness that occurs in college football. He tends to be strictly focused on business. But that wasn’t the case on Friday night in Minneapolis.
With 19 seconds left in the game and Minnesota in the red zone trailing 35-0, P.J. Fleck called a timeout hoping to set up a play to get the Gophers into the end zone and give them some sort of positivity from the night. Ferentz didn’t appear to pleased by that.
Immediately after Fleck’s timeout, Ferentz used up his remaining three for now other reason than to just get under the Minnesota coaching staff’s skin. And when asked about it after the game, the Iowa head coach provided a response you don’t often hear from him.
“We figured we’d take Floyd with us and leave the timeouts here,” Ferentz said of the situation.
From a guy who tends to be pretty buttoned up and stays out of these kind of mind games, this was an interesting action and response to the end of the game. But it’s also what makes college football great.
Iowa defeated Minnesota 35-7, marking the sixth-straight win in the head-to-head series. After the game, the Hawkeyes’ social media page trolled Minnesota, as well.
