Isaiah Williams’ return to the field saw the former blue chip quarterback recruit get his first collegiate touchdown for Illinois.
Down 10-0 at Rutgers, Williams got Illinois on the board early in the second quarter. A 3-yard sneak in which Williams squirmed through two Rutgers linebackers pulled Illinois back in a game that Rutgers had dominated until that point.

Getting the start in place for Brandon Peters, out due to COVID-19 protocols, Williams himself was cleared from contact tracing to be allowed back on the field. Williams last played in Illinois’ loss at Wisconsin, throwing three incomplete passes in his collegiate debit three weeks ago.
At the time of his touchdown, Williams was 3-of-5 for 46 passing yards, adding another 40 rushing yards on 10 carries.
A redshirt freshman, Williams was a four-star recruit and one of the best commitments that Lovie Smith has been able to bring to Illinois.
