Maryland is still hoping to return to action in Week 5, but no official word has been given as of Tuesday.

The Terrapins were forced to cancel their scheduled Week 4 game against Ohio State due to an outbreak of COVID-19 within the program. The team even moved into a hotel over the weekend to try and isolate and slow the spread.

Unfortunately, the team did not return to practice Monday, and Emily Giambalvo with the Washington Post is reporting that the team also did not return to practice on Tuesday. There has not been an update provided to Maryland’s testing numbers:

Without knowing the current testing numbers within the program, it is hard to have an idea of how realistic it is to expect the Terps to try and play in Week 5. At the very least, it is likely essential that Maryland returns to practice on Wednesday if there is any hope to salvage the game against the Spartans.

A Wednesday return to practice would give the Terps two practice days and a walkthrough day to work with before returning to the field. That is likely a bare minimum needed for a return.

Fortunately, Saturday’s game is scheduled to be a home game which means there is no need to worry about travel concerns. As of now, the matchup is still scheduled to kick off at 12 pm EST, but we should have a much clearer picture on the plans for the weekend by Wednesday evening.
