Former Michigan State star Cassius Winston picked in 2nd round of NBA Draft

Cassius Winston is NBA-bound, the Michigan State guard selected in the second round of the NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards
Winston was taken No. 53 overall. The reigning Big Ten Player of the Year a good fit in a Wizards backcourt that needs depth. Last season, Winston averaged 18.6 points per game and 5.9 assists.
He was a regular during his four years in East Lansing, with 108 starts in 139 appearances.
Out of high school, Winston was a big get for a program that recruits among the best in the nation. He was a four-star point guard, who was ranked No. 31 overall and the fifth best point guard in the nation according to 247Sports.com.

His junior year was perhaps his best with the Spartans, averaging 18.8 points per game and 7.5 assists.
That season saw him ball-out at what will be his future NBA home. In two games in the NCAA Tournament at Capital One Arena, home of the Wizards, Winston had what was arguably his best performances of his collegiate career.

In a Sweet 16 win over LSU, Winston put up 17 points and followed that up in the Elite Win against Duke, a No. 1 seed in the tournament. In upsetting the Blue Devils en route to the Final Four, Winston had 20 points and 10 assists as he was borderline dominant on the big stage.
Michigan State would lose in the Final Four to Texas Tech in the next round as Winston struggled from the floor.
