Probably the worst kept secret in the B1G is that Michigan football is in turmoil.

With head coach Jim Harbaugh receiving the brunt of much of the criticism, plenty of people are chiming in with their thoughts.

Rich Rodriguez, former Michigan head coach from 2008-2010 gave his thoughts on the latest episode of his “Hard Edge Football with Rich Rod” podcast.

He was asked about Michigan’s latest difficulties and said he was shocked how badly the Wolverines were beaten by Wisconsin.

“The Indiana game surprised me a little bit, but Indiana’s got a very good football team,” Rodriguez said on the podcast, as transcribed by Angelique Chengelis with the Detroit News. “Didn’t surprise me that Wisconsin won because I think they’re good, got a great young quarterback, but by the amount, you had to be surprised that at home that Wisconsin would beat them that badly.”

When asked if he had any idea what was going on in Ann Arbor, he had a chuckle:

“Why would I have any theories about Michigan football?” Rodriguez said, laughing. “I do think they need to kick the tires a little bit and look under the hood and see everything that’s happened from a recruiting standpoint and a development standpoint. Is the attitude where you want it to be? Are you getting the kind of effort out of everybody involved in the program?

“All those things, I’m sure, are getting evaluated. You want to do that whether you win or lose but particularly when you lose, there’s more of a sense of urgency to get it done right away.”

The Wolverines are scheduled to take on Rutgers this Saturday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 PM in Piscataway, New Jersey.
