Ohio State OL Josh Myers to honor late grandfather during game vs Indiana

Josh Myers is a crucial piece for Ohio State’s offensive line, and he will be honoring his late grandfather during Saturday’s game against Indiana.

For Saturday’s game, family members will be unable to attend the game at the Horseshoe as restrictions have been tightened in the state due to the ongoing pandemic. Myers is taking the opportunity to change his jersey number to 50, an honor to his late grandfather that wore the number in high school:

According to Austin Ward with Letterman Row, Myers has a tradition of keeping a piece of his grandfather’s high school jersey in his sock during game days. Changing his number is just a one-time thing he wanted to do for his grandmother to see and remember:

“I love my grandparents, and I have such a close relationship with them,” Josh Myers said on Thursday. “He passed away a few years ago due to Alzheimer’s, and one thing that my grandma does is that before every season she writes me a letter and then cuts out a square of his jersey from when he played in high school. I wear it in my sock for every game. I just thought it would be a nice thing to wear No. 50 to honor him.

“I wanted it to be a one-time thing that’s really cool that my grandma can have as a memory.”

Being able to honor his late grandfather in such a big game is something Myers is bound to remember for quite some time. The senior lineman will look to continue anchoring an offensive line that has done a great job of protecting quarterback Justin Fields this season.
