After Saturday’s loss to Illinois, there has been a whole lot of talk surrounding Nebraska’s effort. That conversation came to a head when head coach Scott Frost even pointed it out.
The loss to the Illini is now in the rear-view mirror, and the Huskers are now headed toward a rivalry showdown with Iowa on Friday.
It appears that the effort conversation has been held in the Nebraska locker room. Husker wide receiver Kade Warner has already noticed a difference.
Jumping on Nebraska media calls today.
WR Kade Warner says there's a heightened intensity in practice this week after the L to Illinois, references tight games vs. Iowa past 2 years.
“We’re right there. We’re confident. … I think we’ll have a different result this weekend.”

When Nebraska joined the Big Ten, Iowa seemed like the perfect fit for a rivalry. The two programs saw that, too, and started the annual Heroes Game with the winner of the game getting the Heroes Trophy.
In the nine matchups between these teams as Big Ten foes, the games have been entertainment for all. They’ve had 13-7 nailbiters and 56-14 blowouts. During the past two seasons, however, each game was decided by three points in favor of the Hawkeyes.
In 2018, the Huskers had a furious rally with a 15-point fourth quarter to knot things up at 28. Then, Iowa drilled a 41-yard field goal at the buzzer to sink Nebraska and take home the Heroes Trophy.
A year later, the game followed a similar script. Iowa took a 24-10 lead into halftime before things started to get weird. Nebraska scored 14 unanswered to tie the game. Then, Keith Duncan, a walk-on kicker, nailed a 48-yard field goal at the end of the fourth quarter to win 27-24.
The win by the Hawkeyes not only won the game but ended Nebraska’s hopes at postseason play in 2019. That has to have the Huskers feeling in a salty mood and ready for revenge on Friday.
